Bike route toaster - do only TCX files work on Garmin Edge?

I've had problems with Bike Route Toaster lately. I've been downloading routes as GPX files rather than TCX and I suspect that is the root of it all. My Garmin just doesnt like them and refuses to work at all when I've DL'ed routes off there.

If I use TCX files instead, do I still get the same prompts etc at junctions??? I've no idea what the difference is.

    TCX files from BRT work really well with the Edge units - they don't take a lot of time to get used to either; you really don't need the turn-by-turn instructions that the GPX files have the potential to offer. There are a lot of threads on this though.
