What are the benefits of a full carbon frame over aluminium with carbon forks? Is it just weight or are there comfort advantages too?

Because aluminium has comparitively poor fatigue strength, you tend to end up with a stiffer structure in aluminium than in CFRP (for a given yield strength) due to the need to reduce flexing in the aluminium for durability reasons.

So, of two frames designed to meet (but not exceed) a certain set of yield and fatigue strength numbers, the carbon one will give a more comfortable ride as it will not need to be as stiff.

    depends on the frames.

It's personal preference but unfortunately you can't often test ride cheap carbon to compare with high end aluminium. But if you go to a shop and try a decent alu bike and a really good carbon bike then you'll get a bit of an idea.

Unfortunately you just have to ride them to find out.
