I'd be a little concerned about keeping stuff in it for the winter, alot of things are pretty prone to frost damage, and you'd have to make sure stuff went in dry or they could potentially sit there all winter with ice on/in them, which I cant imagine would be too healthy. I wouldnt imagine it's too secure either, but also assume you'd have recognised that fact. It may sound a daft question but do you plan on storing bikes in it? I'd personally give it a miss, but having a double garage makes that choice easier, if needs must, then I can imagine worse ways to store a bike.

Yep, i'm afraid i do. Sadly there's no other alternative that means i still get to have a wife and son living at home and not back at her mums ;)

Bike is currently under a cover, but irrespective of how waterproof they 'seem'. They eeither allow it in a bit as they breathe and are touching the objects... or they seep up from where the bottom is touching the floor.

With this one at least it's not touching the bike etc so could in theory be a better solution.

As long as where you keep it is out of sight and as secure as possible, and if it's the only viable option then go for it. Sounds to me a better solution than your current set up. I'd be a little worried about frost when it gets very cold though, maybe sling some old blankets or towels over the bikes while they're in there. Also, there do appear to be some mixed reviews about the products longevity on amazon. the waterprofing issue some report would probably be remedied by a coat of nicwax though.

Hmmmm, some reviews say it's waterproof and great, some say it leaks... tricky one...

Or put the wife in the tent and the bike in the bedroom, just a thought :D

LOL cracking thought.... However i think when i next tried to wake up i'd have a bread knife around my throat.

I've bought one anyway. I tried to persuade the wife into a 3x7 shed jobbie... but measuring it all up, it would have been too big for the space we have. I'm also buying some Nikwax wash and some Nikwax tent UV/showerproofing.

I'm not sure how much BETTER than the cover i have it willl be, but i certainly don't forsee it being any worse. Sadly.. it's the best compromise i'm going to get away with.

Put the cover inside the tent too, while you test out it's, erm... waterproofness? maybe consider a groundsheet type jobbie under it too, someone reported pooling in the bottom, it may well have come up through the lining instead of down through the canopy.
  • This yardstash product looks similar and one of the reviews on amazon said it was better quality. I'm also looking for some sort of outdoor bike storage solution so will do some more comparison. Cheers!

  • My mates got one, keeps his bike chained to an anchor point in it. Does the trick. I expect him to find a tramp in it one day though...

I wouldn't like to keep an expensive bike in one though.
