Can anyone help me out with a few minutes of their time?

I am an intern at a marketing company who has been asked to put together and collect results for a survey on cycling habits. It should only take a few minutes of your time, but, just to sweeten the deal, I have been given a Kindle 3G to give away in a prize draw! (to enter, include your email at the end of the survey)

The survey can be found here https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SKVTHXH

I would be extremely grateful if you guys could spare me two minutes,

Cheers,
Dave

heh heh, I think my favourite question involved this:

"Have you done the following:.... Road racing (includes Sportives)"

Nice to see the majority of sportive organisers are being so effective in getting their message across

Well laid out survey though and it flowed well. I think the problem for Addidas is that, outside of Team Sky/GB kit, I just don't think of them as a cycling brand.

For your "How much is a reasonable amount to spend?" question you had no option for below £30.

    Why?

Also it's "Which County?" not "what county?"

    Just filled it in.

Apart from DHB I don't own any other clothing brands on the list. Also the how much have you spent doesn't have a £0 option.

As a previous poster mentioned I just don't associate Adidas with cycling at all, in fact when I think of Adidas I just think of 'yoofs' wearing hoodies and tracksuit bottoms hanging around the shops. Not something I would want to identify with.

    That's a shame.

I wear Evil Eyes Pro sunglasses on the bike, my compression wear is Adidas, all my non cycling sportswear is Adidas and I have a cherished collection of 80's Adidas ZX series trainers.

Classic brand that IMO sh1ts on Nike.

Adidas Ghisallo road shoes - bombproof, good prices, very, very comfy. Used the same pair for 5 years, tens of thousands of miles all year round (on road and off road), only had to change them because the velcro gave up, the actual shoe is still perfect.

Purchased in horrifically bright orange and black - so cool.

Not to be confused with Ghisanos, the leather version (which are still really reallygood in themselves, just not as funky orange and black).

Adidas no longer make them which is a great shame - I'd buy another pair tomorrow.

If anyone has a new pair in a box somewhere in a size 9 drop me a pm.

You can just leave the others blank.

To the OP, Sky isn't Britain's only professional cycling team believe it or not!

Yup - that's the plan: either stitch on or glue as soon as I have 10 spare minutes and feel less slack :D

But there's nothing like brand new bright orange shoes to annoy the local Sunday warriors as you cruch them like dogs

Oh - just to confirm: survey all completed and submitted.

Some might think that they make up a fake survey and offer a fake prize that no-one will ever win, just to get your email address so they can sell it to Nigerians selling Viagra!

Which is why you have two - one for this sort of thing and one for ever day life.

Well set out survey but I struggle with the concept of paying the kind of price ranges being quoted. Also, no category for supermarket 'sporting goods' where, I suspect, a great deal of cycling non- & specific clothing is bought. Being a tightwad makes buying cycling stuff a real challenge :)

disgraceful survey ... if you are being "forced" to finish it by "having" to make a choice when it is`nt what you choose in the first place then you`ve just been "programmed" into a response that in the end, the survey wants? So theres no real benefit ... the "over £30" question is patently ridiculous and obviously colours the result. Better to just make up your answers and lie thru` your back teeth actually ....
  • Many thanks for your time guys, your feedback is noted.
Id be very grateful if people who haven't done it yet could help out.

To those who have- Do clothes from Lidl/Aldi compete in terms of quality with the likes of Rapha? Is it important for you to be 'seen' in a certain brand?

    Thanks again,

Starting pricing at £30 is certainly a bit steep. Half of that is an expensive jersey - whereas £70 would be a cheap pair of shoes.

Quality is very subjective. Does a second-hand Fiesta compete with a Ferrari? Yet there are far more people driving the Fiesta. Equally I think far more people are riding around in Lidl / Aldi gear than in Rapha.

The question about purchases refers to equipment / merchandise, but then goes on to talk about clothing brands. I've spent a lot of money on cycling equipment, but not necessarily on clothing.

    Anyway I've done it!
  • thanks for the feedback pigtail.

Do people feel there is a stigma attached to any brands in particular? Interestingly in my discussions with cyclists, Aldi/Lidl seem to gain more respect for their cycling stuff than they do for their food.

Do you find that particular age groups have specific brand preferences?

    Cheers for your continued contributions!

Hmm. Marketing. You're failing to market this one to me. What's in it for me other than the promise of a Kindle? How much money does your agency get for this survey and all you can offer is a bloody book*

*yes, I know it's more than a book but I'm trying to have a rant here.

I might sign up to www.marketradar.com, get a pony-tail and a cocaine habit and ask you all a load of questions about telling porkies.

Now I'm hungry and I fancy a Pork Pie. Now that's marketing! Watch and learn from the Master, intern

Send me a kindle and you have the chance to win my answers?
  • I prefer GiantMike's survey.

Seem like the OP works for Adidas? No brands such as Castelli, Campagnolo, Assos, Rapha etc. etc.

I'm not the best person to ask that.

I'm surrounded by snivelling petty middle class wannabes - and I make countless gestures of petty rebellion by refusing to have branded anything. I wear plain cotton fairtrade t-shirts with no identifying marks. All my clothes are specially selected for not having writing on them, and I avoid brands as though they are contagious.

In other words as far as I am concerned I am a giant in a land of pygmies. As far as they are concerned I'm that strange guy who annoys them all by refusing to do his garden, and who parks a minibus in his drive but pretends it is a campervan, rather than the latest ford focus.

Then I enter this strange parallel world of cycling - where every bloody thing seems to have writing on it. Lidl and Aldi stuff appears to do the job and provides a means of continuing my crusade in another way. Plus it's cheap, which is important to an Aberdonian. Have you seen how much it costs to run a bike? My last car was cheaper. We have to economise somewhere.

you had your 2 minutes but were still asking questions.

Sky aren't the only British road racing team, they're simply the highest profile and biggest budget. try telling Yeovil Town or Stockport County fans that Manchester City are the only British football team.
theres a whole tour of UK teams that goes round the country every year, it even gets on telly, but only terrestrial so probably doesn't count as it doesn't cost enough!

Noting your comments but its too little too late to be asking on here, where were the options to spend less than £30 or buy Aldi kit etc from your conversations with cyclists.

I'm a fan of aldi kit, it is remarkably good VFM and way better quality than its price point, never had the spare money for Rapha, but I'd be astonished if Aldi was comparable quality, however I've bought bikes and even cars for less than the cost of a rapha item so whether it would last comensurately longer than Aldi to have the same value £ per hour worn is highly debateable.
