nice, but I'm distracted a bit by the Brooks saddle - I'm sure it's comfy for you, but it just looks wrong on that bike...

Yeah the Brooks looks weird, but at least it's the titanium one so doesn't weigh half a kilo, only 390g.
    More problems but still living....

Lovely bike matey but that saddle looks like a roofbox on a 911. Sorry, get an Arione....

Oh Joel - looks awesome, but as others have said, that saddle looks out of place.

(How's the back btw? Is that part of the reason for the Brooks?)

Nice saddle, don't think it goes with the bike though, I think you should change the frame and wheels. ;)

Good for you for doing what works. There are too many Cervelos with Shimano or Sram, 3T components and an Arione. Kudos for the cool wheels and the saddle. You're only giving up 100 grams w.r.t. an Arione, which are 260grams anyway.

When you're riding it, you don't see the saddle much anyway.

Or a 911 where someone has ripped out the bucket seats and fitted a leather sofa.

But it is a great bike btw.

Will only look complete when you've fitted a Brooks saddle bag.

It is good to see someone who takes function over form. If the saddle works for you, stick with it.

    Like it, like the saddle.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.
  • What are the wheels like i been looking at getting them but im torn between the C50 and the mavic cosmic carbone SLR's

The bike looks great and it that saddle helps you do 100 miles pain free i see no problem

    Cheers for the comments people.

I expected the usual raft of anti Brooks comments, I get them most weekends anyway!

It may not look quite at home on there, but it is by far and away the most comfortable saddle Ive ever used on a road bike, and Ive tried a lot (SLR, Arione, Gobi, Antares, Spoon, Nago etc etc). Its smaller then you think too, no bigger than a lot of current road saddles out there!
I actually bought it to go on a Brompton, but put it on the S1 to break quicker in as I do more miles on that. I never took it back off! And more to the point I now have them on everything!
This is the only saddle Ive found that I can do a hard 100 mile sportive on, and be totally pain free at the end.

In my book you can go quicker for longer if you are comfortable. Far more so than if your bike is 200g lighter. My bike is hardly a WW bike anyway in fairness. The build is fairly 'safe' and OTP bar the saddle, but I like it. Its reliable, it fits, and it works flawlessly.

Ha ha, and what is wrong with them exactly?
Yes there are lighter 50mm wheels out there, but these are solid and trustworthy.
Again reliability and comfort score higher in my book than light weight when it comes to componentry choices.
DA hubs are also the best in the industry I reckon. Again not the lightest, but the smoothest, and give many years of service due to easy maintainability and the high quality bearings & seals used.

As for my impressions of the wheels:

I changed to these from a set of RS80's, the DA's being something like 150g heavier, and to be honest, yes for the first couple of rides I could feel that when spinning them up. I dont notice it now. I dont race crits however, so once they are spinning they are awesome. I find that even though they are s bit heavier on hills, and a bit slower sprinting, the rides are quicker all in. And this is riding in the Chilterns or in East Devon, neither of which are known for being flat!
I really like the way they ride, they are smooth, stable, are easy to mount tires on, and dont really seem bothered by side winds (I rode them in the Etape Cymru the other week with no dramas). They just ooze quality, to handle they just feel like precision instruments. I have no regrets about buying them anyway.

You'll get Mavic lovers and haters, just as you will shimano. People will always recomend what they have, Im not sure there is such thing as an unbiassed opinion.
Having owned Cosmics and these however, I'd stick with these. But then I just prefer Shimano's way of doing things when it comes to wheels. If you like Mavics then I dont think you'll go wrong with the SLR's
