As long as they match ie 9speed then yes, actually probably not even that important, you could get away with a Campag crank. It's the cassette that is more important to be matched gear wise.

the question is not really relevant as the front mech is the main issue. but using Deore shifters you will lose any trim function.

I have done it with a triple shifter(not Deore) Just by using the limit screws on the front mech. I ended up with a kind if trim function with the middle position on the shifter.
