I'm currently using the shimano deore external bb which came with a chainset. I've been using this type of bb for years now but I'm sure the quaility is getting worse. Only fitted this one 2 weeks back and its already creaking on one side. Has anyone got a recommendations for BB's which might last a bit longer?

Regards
Dave

  • was it all tight and well greased? i had my stock bb go on my hardrock after 4-500 miles but i was pretty heavy when i got it.

Fitted a cheap shimano internal bb for £20 and its been smooth as new ever since (another 300 miles or so since its been fitted)

Internal BB won't work with HTII cranks.
I am trying an XTR but since I got it the weather has been nice and sunny, so no idea what mud will do to it.
    Yet.

  • I've just been looking on crc and am thinking of going Hope bound due to the good reviews...

If that doesn't last something is very wrong.

On the other hand you could buy 6 Deore or 3 XT for that price. Hopefully it lasts.

Agree with Cooldad, wont outlast 6 Deore I'd wager
  • I see what your saying but the hope would save the need to change the deore 5 or 6 times. Going off the fact that this latest one has only lasted 2 weeks then rather than the usual 4/6 months I think I'll give the Hope a go. Considering the weather is getting crappy and I use my bike daily for work then I need something more reliable. Yes it's more expensive but in the long run it should pay for itself...hopefully! Why do these BB's go so quickly then as I have the SLX press fit on my Zesty for over a year and no issues also had the same on my EX8 a couple years ago so am I just lucky that mine havn't gone as people on here seem to have to change them quite often??

Is it actually 'gone'? Are you sure that is what creaking? Sometimes they go on for a long time!
