Okay I know there a good few London folk in Commuting Chat. I have just moved down and am taking my bike this weekend. I've got my eye on the Swains Lane Urban Hill Climb... has anyone on here had a go?

Indeed - lots of Londoners have gone on endlessly about Swains lane as though it were the sort of climb you'd notice you'd ridden up. They need to MTFU and find some proper hillsFaster than a tent.......0

Rolf. It's a nice little bump and that's about it. I'm looking forward to big-ringing it. You'll notice I say I have just moved down...

I did notice that. Big ring, small sprocket. That's the way to do it!
Still, to be fair Simon Warren rates it as a 4 out of 10 in 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs so I probably ought to make the effort one day!Faster than a tent.......0 -

Not at all. Just there aren't many hills in London! And in all fairness; Swains Lane is only 800m long.
Shandy has nothing to do with it. That's another thread.Ben

He does say that he's counting them as great climbs than necessarily the hardest, around my folks place a number of the few mile long mini alp like climbs are in the book, are they the hardest hills in the area? no there are number of nasty short brutes that have impossible average grades but they don't have the iconic climb factor.0 -
It's not as hard as the monster that is Balham Hill.0

I know. If he was listing them as the hardest, there wouldn't be any in the Southeast and it would all look a bit repetitive!Faster than a tent.......0 -
That hill up to White Lodge in RP must surely be in there. Every day I struggle up that!0

It's nice because you're in London.
Taking in Highgate Hill West, and then Swains Lane a few times makes for a good run.
The current leader rode Swains 40 times in one go...0
