HI,
just getting sorted out with a new road bike after years of walk/run activity.
I have always logged my excercise sessions using an iPhone app and web based portal called Runtastic.

I am now thinking of trying to get my heart rate incorporated into the excercise data automatically.

Anyone able to tell me (in layman's terms) what I need - I think its a chest transmitter belt and a "dongle".

Wheres best to get them? Any second hand resellers?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Take a look over at Endomondo

This app will track all manner of sports and has the facility you are after

I think they have what you require in the store on the site

    Cheers Kev
  • Thanks - I will take a look

  • You could also look at the Wahoo system, which is compatible with the Cyclemeter App. Wahoo make a bike mount case that incorporates the Ant+ transceiver (instead of a dongle), a wireless speed/cadence sensor and a wireless heart monitor.

I have also been looking into this, having just taken delivery of my new ride last week. Chain Reaction Cycles are currently selling the case and speed/cadence sensor as a set for £135.99 - others are selling it around the £149 mark. Interestingly, CRC are also selling the case and mount only for £54.99 (code 226700) and separately the speed/cadence for £44.99 (code 226702), giving a total of £99.98. The heart rate sensor is £62.99 but out of stock.

I wasn't sure if there was something included in the set that was missing if purchased separately but this was the reply that I got from their customer services:
I had a look at this for you, I brought them up into the office to check and it turns out that it is cheaper to buy them separately rather than buying them as a pack. There will be nothing missing when bought separately and you will be saving quite a bit as well.

I grabbed a bargain. Will report more when I have had a play with it.
  • Wow - interesting.
Will take a look at this - thanks.
