Insurance

After my work had been broken in to last night I decided to check with my home insurance to check that my bike would of been covered if worst case i had left it in the office.

I was amazed to discover that my bike wasn't actually covered at all since it cost over £1500.

I then went to check prices on stand alone bike insurance and it is almost as much as my home insurance. Does anyone know a good company that does reasonable priced insurance?

+1 Two or three recent postings on this (search).

[edit to add: Just noticed that this was my demonic posting]

  • Can't you just add the bike to your household insurance as a named item?

No as bike is over £1500 they won't insure it.

As has been pointed out countless times on the forum - use Search key

M&S insure for up to £4000 I think - I've got their insurance but not read the smallprint

I have my home and content insurance with NFU. They kindly added both my bikes without any premium adjustment.

Halifax will insure bikes over £750 as a 'named' item, as mentioned above.

I just notified my insurers last week of a change from a Giant Defy 2 £800 to a Merckx EMX1 £2000, and they gave me a £18 credit.

Where's the logic in that !
  • I added mine onto my home insurance for cover anywhere and i think it added an extra £15 onto the premium. Valued at £1600
  • Another M&S user thanks to this forum.

Had to pay a bit more to get the Cento Uno insured but both bikes are now covered.

I went to the M&S web site to look at their insurance, but my computer seemed to get stuck on the Lingerie section :P

I was burgled at home and had two Tarmac SL2 bikes stolen . These bikes were covered under the standard policy i had with Hiscocks and they paid me the full replacement value.I was dreading making a claim following the Burglary as you hear all these stories about being put through hoops to even get replacements agreed. Well Hiscocks couldnt do enough for us and i would recommend their service to anyone. When we were burgled they also stole a Van my daughters Car and the keys to the house and the spare keys to two other cars so we had 5 Insurance claims on the go!

Whilst it was great to get the money back.tThese two bikes had been all over the place with me and whilst the replacement bike is a great ride i miss the old faithfulls! They even cover my replacement bike for use all over the wWorld at a small extra premium!
