Fresh Legs!!!

Today I went out on the bike after a couple of weeks without riding (enforced as a result of illness and work schedule). I have to say that my legs were feeling particularly good and I seemed to be speeding along with almost no effort at all - even this big hill going towards work was no problem. The extended rest must have done them good.
How do I keep things this way? Perhaps I have been pushing my legs too far as some days they can feel quite lethargic.

I have heard of this many times before. Having a break from riding and then posting a fastest ever time over a regular route.
I don't know how you could keep your legs that fresh on a permanent basis other than only going for a ride once a week (sod that for a lark)
Personally, I don't like to ride 3 days on the trot so weather permitting I have a day off after 2 days of riding and this seems to freshen my legs up a bit.Cube Agree GTC Pro

Weirdly I find like today I have not been out for a week for various reasons. I go and feel like crap! I just need to keep going. Guess everyone is different?0

If I don't ride for 4 or 5 days I spend the 1st hour gasping for breath with an aching chest. My lungs feel like they've stiffen up and it's a real problem to breathe; I don't smoke.0 -
To be honest, a short break doesn't do me any good either.
My average over a 20 mile route has been slowly creeping up from 15mph when I first got my road bike 6 weeks ago to a PB of 16.5 mph last week. I then had a 6 day break due to work comitments and nearly killed myself for a 15.4mph average.
I hill that I had been getting quite comfortable going up nearly made me turn around and go home.
I will definately be getting a turbo in the next month or two. I dread to think what I will be like if we have a winter like last year.Cube Agree GTC Pro

I haven't been on the bike since Monday and I went out on my favourite short route (23k, little traffic, 1 traffic light) and I beat my PB average speed by 0.4kph (25.8. It's funny I wasn't really in the in the mood, I had a hectic week, but then I got to the first hill and thought "I feel pretty good, lets go".
I was still at that bloody light over two minutes, I know I can do that course within 50mins before the year is out!0
