Crud road racers any good? Can you use 25mm tyres with them or will they just rub and ruin your ride? Anyone fitted them to a bmc pro machine before? Was thinking winter bike but money has had to be used for something else so i was thinking this could be a stop gap till after Christmas. Any infor would be greatly appreciated :)

  • Hi there. purchased a set last year to go on my specialized, was initially running 25mm but there was not nearly enough clearance so went with 23mm still didn't clear. upgraded my bike last year to a wilier still running the 23mm tyres, put them on last night for a wkd ride but not actually ridden with them yet, seems to be enough clearance. The only problem is if you encounter loose gravel on your travels they tend to get wedged under the cruds imo. good luck Not a great fan of mudguards but have to admit they look half decent.

They're great (to quote a tiger)

Check out a review in my signature.

They've just been updated again with a new sticky addition.

Fitted them to a langster last winter, any stones or mud picked up on a 23c tyre would touch or jam next to the brake caliper. I used a heat gun to reshape the guard and made them ok.

I have a set with 23c tires, they rattle a bit but when you have them set up right they're really nice IMO. Have had a rock get stuck under the front guard once but it popped out pretty quick.

The second time you put them on, you'll find it really quick to do too. No tools required.

Worth protecting/taping the stays on a nice bike like the BMC Pro Machine as IME they rub on the paintwork. Apart from that a useful alternative to traditional mudguards.

Big fan - they will fit over 25's as long as your bike has clearance. Currently using them with 25's on my Ribble Audax.

They work well but they tend to break where the cable tie secures them to the frame. However Crud will send you the spare parts for about £6.....
