The glut of new unis seem to have dowgraded what the big 10 or so are worth, as have some of the courses they offer which seem ridiculous. Entry level requirements have tumbled, with some places allowing you in with D grade A levels (or worse!), and some courses just a handful of hours per week.
Not saying this is the case with a Geology degree, but I guess it is just not relevant to 99.999% of jobs out there.
It seems anyone can do a degree, at my last totting up I know 11 people who have done a psychology degree in the last 10 years, yet only one has ever worded in the field, and she's just quit her job to go and make shavers in the Netherlands. I hink the putting up of the uni fee's might be a good thing in some respects as it makes people question is Uni really where they need to be going. Fewer people going though the system will mean more weight is given to grauates applying for jobs, whereas at the minute the job market is saturated with people with degrees.0 -

yes it would kill them, you may think that you're the only person applying but you're not. Our last vacancy as a cleaner had over 50 applicants and I don't have time to write 50 letters or make 50 phone calls.Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.

I know in some places, the letter doesn't even get to the HR Dept. Common mistake is not addressing the letter to the right person so it get's thrown in the bin...0 -
One place told me with graduate applications they got 100s if not 1000s, and they effectively divide the pile in half and chuck one half in the bin.0
