Swapping inner Chainring - Shimano RSX
I would like to swap my 42T inner ring to something a little more easy on the knees. My bike has Shimano RSX-100 componentry and I was wondering if I can remove the inner ring and replace with a 39 or 34. Can anyone spec me the ring I need to buy? thanks

It will be a 130mm BCD size chainring probably, and a 38T or 39T ring will be the size to go for as a 34T would only fit on a compact type chainset.
I'd suggest looking on ebay and search for "39 chainring" maybe also 38.

Or put a Wanted ad here in the Classified pages. Just be sure you buy a chainring that fits the Shimano size of 130mm BCD (bolt circle diameter).
Good luck.0 -
Thanks for that Marky - seems like these things are quite rare and I might have to import form the US in order to get a 38t inner 130mm.0

Have you measured the PCD? I used to have RSX and thought it was less. Of course you may be able to change your cassette and it may be cost effective to get a new crank.0

I'd be keen to know how you get on Marky. I'm running RSX and 52/42 is killing me and my knees.0

You should find what you want here. Do not get the Dural ones. They wear quickly. The Zicral are much better.
Your BCD should be 130mm but it is easy to measure from the centre of the BB spindle to the centre of a bolt hole and double it.0 -
Just picked this up so hopefully its a cheap way of saving the knees
