Hybrid or MTB

I'm wanting a MTB style bike for road use as I prefer the more upright, wider grip position on a mountain bike compared with a road bike!

Would I be better building up a really lightweight MTB or getting a hybrid and hacking some fat tyres on it!

I'm trying to take into consideration that the roads are shitty too! I also want to have disc brakes on it but have noticed that a lot of hybrids do have disc brakes.

Any opinions would be appreciated

  • If you prefer the feel of an MTB then go for that and customise it to how you want it :D

Alot of hybrids dont take particularly wide tyres - very few will take 'fat' ones.

Sounds to me like you would probably be best with an MTB

29er for the road, is that what they are good for?
You can still sit up and beg on a road bike, put an adjustable stem on the bike.
  • Cheers guys - think I am going to build up a hybrid style road bike.
