Misses decided to wash her phone yesterday ( div! )

So she shopped about yesterday and got a Blackberry with a PS3 thrown in, now i detest computer consoles and games. Fortunatley we have two young lads so i did not think too much of it considering they already share a nintendo WII ( educational and also keeps them on the move etc )

I found out today it also is a Blu Ray player! RESULT! i am a massive Star Wars fan and i have seen the whole trilogy advertised around the various formats so i could not wait to get it opened and set up.

We are fortunate to have the whole sky HD package already, tell you what though i have been massively blown away with Blu Ray, i thought i had seen it all with HD

Anyone recommend any films that will push it too its limits?

I am like a kid in a sweetshop i tell thee!

lord of the rings (normal version £14 on play for all three films!!!)
Dark knight (probably the best quality)
transformers (for the image pop and colours)

now go out and get your self a HD compatible amp and speakers you will love it!! its just as addictive as buying cycling stuff

check out avforums for some amazing builds and check your settings are ok on your ps3

You've opened yourself up to a whole new world of pleasure, and sometimes frustration, when a transfer is disappointing. I would second Dark Night, but one film I think is absolutely amazing is Blade Runner.
Animation often lends itself very well to bluray and it's worth checking out something like Wall-e or often quoted as reference material is cars.
By and large I haven't upgraded many films that I already had on DVD. Read forums and see what people think of the quality. There have been some real turkeys. Gladiator was slated so much they had to redo it.

What would you guys reckon to upscaling? I can't really say I've noticed much of a change in most dvds but the likes of Cars,Ice Age,Megamind looked to be more vibrant in colour. Have watched the likes of 300 on BR and have to say the dine in the shade arrow scene was fantastic,V for vendetta wasn't shoddy either.

    Perhaps it's just me.

Upscaling does give a better visual appearance, but it certainly doesn't match bluray. You also need a tv which is well set-up and to be at a suitable distance from it.

Yeah but no matter how impressive your AV setup is, you'd still be watching Transformers...

Yeah, luckily we have a Loewe which was bloody expensive when we got it a couple years back. Cracking tv though, although these early ones couldn't communicate with amstrad sky HD boxes properly. We ended up turning it off and buying a bluray player hehe

    Dark Night,
Star Wars x 6 (im a fan too)
    Avatar
    cars
    Casino Royale
    Toy story 3
    Tron Legacy
And my fav, Lord of the Rings trilogy on blu ray

These are my reference discs when i do any sort of upgrade to my cinema setup. Some argue about the quality of the story, but they work for me.

have you got the surround sound set up to go with it?

as some of the sound tracks can also make a big difference. and that would change the discs I would recommend.

the latest Tron is a good visual and sound . Inception as well.

For picture quality I like. 3.10 to yuma
    No country for old men
    There will be blood
    dark knight
    Gran torino
    Brokeback mountain

    The fighter
Before I buy a blu ray I always check blu-ray.com to see what they say about the quality

I think no country for old.men is considered reference quality, thought this was a few years back.
