Ribble Opinion

Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy a new <£500 frameset to replace my current set-up (which is getting old, and is a little too big). Currently I'm on a 58cm Specialized Secteur Elite, with full Shimano 105 (and bits and pieces of Ultegra).

I was ideally looking to get my hands on the Canyon Ultimate AL, but they are completely out of stock in my size (56).
I've seen a number of really nice looking framsets on Ribble though. Such as:
http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-t ... IBBFRAR269
or

These seem so cheap, it's almost too good to be true! Are Ribble a good brand?
Any other suggestions?

Thanks

    Hi,

Put Ribble into the search and you'll come up with lots of fors and againsts.
I would say the againsts are probably customer related.
I've used them for years and never had a problem. When I got back into cycling I got their alloy 7005 frame with Xenon groupset and Mavics for £500.
I think they're hard to beat on price.
I'm getting a new winter bike built up this year and just received one of their frames.
It's on their site at £163 if you have a look. Very happy with the finish. Nice paintjob and feels pretty light.

From reading other posts, Ribble frames are probably made in the same place in the far east as Planet X etc.

I did a similar thing, taking the components from my Specialized Allez and fitting them to a Ribble Sportive frame.

I am very impressed with the frame (bought s/hand). I now have a better, lighter, faster bike for not a lot of money. An ideal upgrade too, because slowly upgrading kit on the frame will only serve to gain more improvements.

My biggest problem now is that I find it hard to justify getting a new bike. Not just because I love the Ribble, but a significant improvement will cost me £1k's.

Yes, Ribble are noticeably very affordable - (arguably they provide the best price/performance of any frameset provider..) - their framesets are also perfectly adequate regards quality/reliability (and they look good too) - tons of people here use them.

Have the Gran Fondo and am suitably impressed. Previous bike is an Allez Triple which is a trusty stead but nowhere near a comfy as the GF.
