  • I have something on the chain stay. I meant more to stop the chain flapping about rough terrain, jumps etc.

apart from running a single speed :(
  • I use a lizard skin chain stay protector, I've recently had a blackspire chain tensioner fitted. Sometimes dropped the chain on rocksections for £25 it's a bargain. Not only does it stop chain coming off it also quiet'ns the drivetrain.

I taped an old sock to my old mountain bike, completely covering it so it wont mold up, as a cheap solution.

Now I have an issue with the chain hitting the chain cage on my single speed which I can't find a fix for. Does prove useful occasionally, works like a bell.
  • Cheers guys.

Make sure the chain is the correct length. I had a couple of issues with the chain sucking up. Checked it and it was about 3 links too long. Been good as gold since I shortened it.

Blackspire won't actually stop chain slap though. If anything it will bring the chain closer to the chain stay. Will stop it coming off if that's the problem, but BDJ didn't seem to be having that issue last week.

No that wasn't the issue. My chain is probably too long as someone suggested actually... It flaps about quite a bit and sometimes when I change gear it seems to catch on the front mech and I need to be careful otherwise it locks up. Does this sound like a few links too many?
