Pumps on bikes

I'm looking to buy a pump to pit on the bike for those longer rides.

Having looked around the various retail websites I like the idea of the ones with hose (medical reasons).

Do these pumps fit comfortable to the frame, I ask as I have a Planet X SL Pro (Compact frame) and am concerned that it may not fit on the seat tube too well.

(LBS does not stock 'em, cost not a problem)

thanks for any advice

Topeak Road Morph - great pump (including hose!) - should be fine on seat or top tube.

  • pumps on frames look so messy, unless you get one that fits alongside the bottle holder. go for small, or gas.

these pumps always get good reviews and have a hose

but for size weight and convienience - this takes some beating

  • I would recommend Lezyne. Their pumps are solid and well made.

Various models and colours, I prefer the mini HP model which has a frame mount although I tend to slip in to a jersey pocket (as per rule #30 on a lighter note!).

Most of the big web suppliers stock Lezyne I have never found any of my LBS who stock the product, and it is slightly more expensive than some other makes.

Lezyne Micro Drive HP ticks all the right boxes or go for a decent frame-fit pump like the Topeak Road Warrior which you can fit under the toptube. Many mini-pumps are useless ornaments IME unless you have the forearms of Popeye and the patience of a saint.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

+1 for Lezynes. Best mini pumps I've found. I've two now.

    +1 Leyzne

Pressure drive is small enough to look tidy on the frame & will pump up to over 100psi without issue.

Topeak Road Master Blaster. I don't even use my floor pump any more.

I've got this one, and a mini Lezyne, both perform equally well, both very good pumps in my opinion, but I do find the Topeak more comfortable for pumping and a better grip.

Go for Lezyne. Mine is several years old now and a bit tatty, but it still works perfectly!

Sorry typo race rocket
  • I need a new pump but I want one which screws on to the valve the old-fashioned way.

Is this sort still available or am I stuck with the new fangled type? :?:
  • Hi Kenelm62,
looking at this thread http://www.bikeradar.com/road/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12804707 I suspect there are some pumps that screw on.

Best bet would be to go to your LBS (local bike shop) had have a look.
