Due an upgrade on my contract phone, sticking with what I have is not an option (too many niggles) so looking at alternatives. Samsung Galaxy S II looks okay but are there any others better? Just needed for calls, texting, the odd photo when I haven't got my camera with me, and occasional web whilst out.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

Wife's got one and it is really good, just stay away from Windows and Nokia phones IMHO.

  • I've got a Galaxy S II and it is amazing. By far the best phone I found when searching in June when I upgraded. Android phones appear to be leading the way at the moment IMO

The Galaxy SII is superb, I got one to replace an iphone 3GS and find it far quicker. The screen quality is fantastic, it is extremely light (sometimes end up looking everywhere for it and then realise it's in my pocket  ). Thought I was the only person with one as most of the people I know are Apple sheep with the occassional 'rebel' who has an HTC Desire.

Thanks foe the replies - I think that's the way I was going anyway, but good to hear the views of people who have them already. Don't want to follow the iPhone flock (wife has an iPhone 4 and nothing spectacular)

I have the earlier Galaxy S, very happy with it, and the S II is distinctly better.

Given what you want it for isn't the S2 a bit more than you need? I've got the Galaxy S and its a really good phone, but its pretty big. If was after a phone for texting and calls mostly then I'd get something smaller (and cheaper) like the HTC Wildfire.

What about the HTC phones? Aren't they supposed to be good?

I can get the S II for the same price as most other handsets (free), so makes sense to get the best there is in case I actually get round to reading the manual finding it can be used for other stuff :D
Getting £60 back on my Satio as well, so a negative cost upgrade (and cheaper tariff than now 8) )

I didn't like the S2. Too big and the Samsung software is quite poor (the hardware - screen and camera - is amazing).

Switched back to HTC (Desire S) and find it much better.

The current 2 best phones out at the Samsung Galaxy S2 or HTC Sensation.

    This,

Mrs has S2 I have Sensation.

S2 has a brighter screen, but the HTC is higer res (both same size screen)

S2 is slightly faster on some apps, but you wouldnt really notice. Sensation is far, far, far better built. S2 feels cheap compared.

Have you compared the HTC Sensation and S2 with night shots? I find my HTC is cack at night, and my dad has an Xperia Arc and that blows it out of the water for night time camera performance.

I managed to S-OFF and mod my phone, so it's got the CPU running at 1.5GHz and I've got rid of crappy HTC Sense too.
  • S2 = fantastic.

  • i have had a htc desire since july and today has been the forth time that if has played up, only giving me limited service which made my whole day a nightmare being a electrician and not being able to get hold of anyone, or anyone able to get hold of me. I am going to go to the shop tomorrow and see if they will let me swap it for an i phone, i didn't get one in the first place because like others have said it follows the crowd, but maybe thats just because they are the best? i have a i pod touch and a macbook pro and so kinda makes sense to stick with apple

Have you never thought your device may be faulty?

I've had a Desire for over a year and a half. Still a brilliant phone - never had any problems.

However, upgrade due soon and will be looking round for something different (because I like to change and play with different gadgets). :D
