Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but looking for a club in Northwest Leeds area, preferably one with a couple of different runs so i can start easy and build my riding up.

My problem is not having any friends who are into cycling, and nobody in work is really into it. So looking for a friendly group, preferably with a few younger riders as i am only 26.

Any body know of any good ones?

Cheers

  • Otley CC

Seacroft Wheelers (East Leeds but Leeds isn't that big)

    Airedale Olympic

These are the first that spring to mind. All googleable.
  • Thanks

I should have been more clear. I've already done a bit of googling. More looking for other people's experiences etc. before I take the plunge and go for my first ride
  • Ah!

Apologies. Can't comment I'm afraid although a chap at work is in Airedale Olympic and from what he says, they're a good bunch of people.

And if you fancy just occasionally nipping out with someone else, I'm in Horsforth...

  • I've been out with Wheeleasy in Harrogate a few times. I think they're actually CTC affiliated, however, they have sufficient members to run 'touring pace' and 'fast pace' rides. If you don't want to ride to Harrogate (the A61 isn't much fun and there aren't many other routes) they're an easy train ride from Horsforth or Headingley (they meet in Hornbeam Railway Station carpark)

I've only been out with them a few times, but I find they're a very friendly bunch and enjoy their cafe stops. They're not really a 'roadie' club, but they have plenty of road riders (if that makes sense). I live in North Leeds and may well be joining them this Sunday.

There are quite a few alternatives - it's just that you'll need more than a cake stop before you even started the ride proper!

One of the problem is that there's only a few ways to cross the river, so anything other than the A61 requires a relatively large diversion. It quickly gets to the point that 'getting to the ride' becomes greater than 'the ride'.
  • I'm in Horsforth too Chiark, ride a black equilibrium.

If you fancy going for a ride sometime give me a shout, or if you fancy trying a club run.

I normally ride up through otley to askwith, ilkley etc.

I've probably passed you sometime then - my route is Cow&Calf out to Ilkey, up to Bolton Abbey, back through Ilkley and Askwith, Otley, Pool in Wharfedale then back to Horsforth.

Will PM you my details :)
