A'right folks.

Ive just joined the forum after having a look around for a week or so. Seems like a good mix of the straight-laced and nutters and all inbetween! :D

I've not been on a bike(seriously) for around 14 years and have recently got myself a second hand Rockhopper. It has just been overhauled with new Deore LX derailleurs, shifters and Alivio chainset. It also has Rock Sox Tora forks.

Anyway, the right hand crank, where the pedal screws in has been threaded so a new chainset has been ordered.

Ive been quoted £15 from the local bike shop to fit it, which sounds reasonable?

Should I get them to do it, or get myself a crank extractor and have a go? Is this an easy job? Im not experienced in bike mechanics/maintenance.

Thanks for any help you can give!

for #15 I'd let them do it. Sounds like a good price.

Surely it was threaded to start with, but now now cross-threaded?
    "Coming through..."
  • Cross-threaded? That'll do. I think the actual term is it's f@~*$d! :D

Sounds like I should just get the LBS take care of it. Saves ruining the manicure!
