For touring I recommend the Garmin Dakota 20 because it runs on AA batteries not a built in lithium. I managed to do a 10 day camping tour in France using 8 sets of AA's (rechargeable NiMH) without the need for any mains to recharge. Each set lasts about 2 days riding.

I have open street maps and velomaps on it for several countries and it has met my needs perfectly for touring, all free.

It will record all ride data and can use HRM and Cadence sensors (bought seperately) and it can be uploaded to various pc and web software (incluuing Garmins Training Camp).

I also use it at the gym as an HRM.

You need to buy the £11 bike mount seperately.
  • Hi MM,

I use the Garmin Edge 705 & www.bikehike.co.uk to create "courses" to ride. Also, the Garmin Connect website has a good range of features for showing speed/height.

  • The Bryton stuff is quality too, and a lot cheaper than Garmin stuff.
