For one of my GCSE's i have decided to go and make a bike repair stand but not sure what attachment is the best e.g. seat post attachment or top frame attachment. and also what would be easiest to make? as i am researching and still not too sure...any ideas?

You want to cover all bikes so a universal clamp would be best.

Where would it be best to clamp it? the frame or seat post? + i would be making it of metal (of course), but it's most likely going to be steel.

There was a thread on here a while back on the same topic - do a search you might find it.

I think I read something on here, that you were only supposed to clamp a bike by the seat post.

Yup always the seat post. You dont want to squish your frame and end up with a large bill - seat posts on the other hand are relatively cheap in comparison, plus the bike should balance better being suspended from that area.
