Hi can one recommend some good base layers?

From basic reading and knowledge, I believe the best material is Merino but should it be 100% merino or a blend?

For 100% merino, I am tempted to buy these:

On the pricy side but is there any cheaper alternatives that you can recommend?

I need it for cycling but alternative uses for multi-day trips and snowboarding would be preferable.

100% merino. The Endura range is very good, my BaaBaa long sleeve got me through last winter with no problems. Planet-X are currently doing a sale on merino base layers. £15-20 for a top sounds good to me.

I have one BaaBaa and one Icebreaker. I think the Icebreaker is the better of the two & I think I picked it up at one of those sports discount stores (JD sports or Sports Direct or something) at "half price"

Rutland Cycles often do Icebreaker at good prices, I like my long sleeved version.
  • I bought a Rapha one thinking I'd try and discover what all the fuss was about. I now own about a dozen for summer and winter. They are made of some sort of miracle fabric that keeps you cool when it's hot, and hot when it's cold.
