Invisible road humps at night

Just a warning - I was out cycling in the dark a few nights ago, when I hit a road hump I didn't see.
My eyesight is not perfect, but I think some road humps are very difficult to see at night if you don't know they are there, or if you are dazzled by oncoming headlights. Often the markings ( I think these are required ) have completely worn away.
I didn't come off, but it's not pleasant to hit a bump when you are not expecting it.
