First ever proper road ride this morning...

OK,
So I picked up my Cube Peloton 2011 a week ago, been on a couple of mile journeys, but not a proper ride.
Was going to go over the weekend but decided to make the bikes home a bit tidier.
So my garage went from this
to this
Last night I fitted my Shimano SPD-SL 105 pedals, and attached the cleat to my new Shimano R087 shoes. I've never used any form of clipped in pedal/shoe before, so I was a tad nervous, especially as most people seem to have a story about coming off when first getting used to them!
Anyhow, 06:50 this morning, I set off on a route near me that I had planned out. This takes in mainly all New Forest roads. Nice quiet one to start, especially as I wanted to get used to the shoes/pedals, and the bike for that matter.
I set iMapmyride app on my phone going and headed off. The pedals definitely need some getting used to. Clipping in at the moment is a bit hit and miss, and I do find myself looking down, but i'm sure it will get easier. I had one wobble but managed to stop myself going over!
In total (and according to the app) I did 14.48mi in 59:21 with an average speed of 14.8mph. Which to be honest, I was quite happy with for a first ride. My plan is to do this at least 2-3 times a week, before I start work. Was a really nice way to start the day! The app also said that my max speed was a tiny tad over 40mph! (Not sure how accurate that is though!)
I snapped a picture before heading down a fast road...
All in all its a really good start, my backside doesn't feel too bad, (although im sure it'll smart more tomorrow!) and i'm hoping this will be something that I really enjoy and get into.
The Cube is now all tucked away ready for teh next ride which will probably be on Wednesday!
Heres to many more!

hell of a change to the garage!
How easy was it to lay that floor? Is it metal or rubber?0 -
Loving the garage upgrade. How long did that take?0
-
Nice bike and garage, bet you can't wait till those tyres need replacing though!0

Well done on the ride - welcome to the roadie club. You probably will have the odd fall with the clipless pedals to start with - I think I managed 3 or 4 with a bigger gap between each consecutive one, but then I'm a bit clumsy.
What is the floor surface, how much was it, and what do you think to it?
Ditto the double bike rack you have against the wall.
I'm moving into a new house with a garage in December0 -
Garage clear up and painting took one day, flooring, racking and a bit more clearing took another half. Still got a few tip runs to do, will have been 7 in total!
The flooring is from eBay. Easimats. It's a 11mm foam tile that interlocks. £67 delivered. I'll dig out a link to the seller.
Also put about 25 litres of emulsion on the walls, and some loftboards in the rafters to store stuff.
The bike rack is from Aldi, £29.99. It's ok but I need to do a bit more securing. It only come with a single screw!
@Keith1983 - are you telling me you don't like my green stripes??
I actually quite like them, so it's all good!!0 -
Love the stripes - how did you find the narrow tyres (looks like you were more used to MTB) before - I presume they are 23mm?0

@wishitwasallflat - true, I have only ever ridden mountain bikes and my last was a hybrid. Always been sub £250 bikes.
It is certainly different. I had a fair bit of wobble when I first went out, but you get used to it quite quickly. The tyres are actually Schwalbe Lugano 25x622. Well that's from the tech specs online. I'm guess that's a 25mm profile then.
To others that have asked, I do rate the flooring very highly. I ummed and ahhed, over it for ages, but should have got on and got it aged ago!
The seller is easimat2007. But there's loads on there selling similar ones.0 -
Well done for not falling off. I got the same shoes and pedals as you also on my new bike. And I had 2 falls on my first outing with the pedals/shoes. One time just forgetting i was clipped in and the other I unclipped one side and forgot about the other doh!!!.
A week later and its easy now just unclip before junctions and hover above pedal so you can reclip straight away if theres no need to stop.
Nice garage transformation0
