hi guys I need some help!
I'm currently building my own bike, and I'm looking to do a single ring up front and a cassette on the back! Probably about 9 gears on the back.. That's as much as I know!
I need bottom bracket cranks cassette chainring bash guard. How do I know what sizes to get and how many teeth to get?
Would appreciate the advice!!
Ben

If you are not sure, then probably best to start with a triple chainset and front derailer - ride, then maybe change the rings then.
What frame is it?0 -
It's an orange x2 it's quite old im still half looking for a different one but that's a different matter! I deffo want a single speed! Never use the other rings on other bikes I've had. Hassle I can do without :-D0

I like the 36 ring on my 456 which is 1*9 but you probably want the bigger 11-34 cassette with it. Personally I'd run a 36 with an 11-36 10 speed setup. The x-7 seems to work quite well and isn't that expensive.0

I'd get something like this as is great value:

You can remove the rimgs you don't want, then get the bash to fit the one you like. Probably the 32 would be best for allround riding. Comes with bottom bracket too.0 -
How do I know the parts I buy will have a good chain line? Will a mid cage be ok? Any preference of cranks? I was thinking truvativ hussefelts?
If I'm running a single chainring do I need to get a shorter bb??0 -
You need to look at the documents about chain line as are all different. Modern chainsets have external bottom brackets and fixed axle lengths - BB spacers can be used to adjust chainline in some cases, as can mounting the chainring in/out of the tabs.0

Which ring were you using then? - the middle one? - 32T?
..build a ring/cassette combo that you know you like (from previous experience)"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes
