Death of a cyclist

More information at road.cc and the CTC Forum.
Quite shocking, both the tragedy of the accident for all involved and the completely un-balanced reporting by the media. The Sheffield Star article makes the motorcyclist sound like some born-again motorcycle riding martyr.
I know the area and the road well having lived on the south side of Sheffield on and off from 1976 until 2003. Fortunately I spent most of my riding time MTBing so only had to contend with the occasional trail-bike rider and green-laner in their 4x4.
My sympathies to all touched by this.Boardman CX Team0 -
I got a response back from the Paper.....Thank you for your email.
Newspapers as you will be fully aware can not apportion blame to anybody involved in a collision like this until an inquest is heard and the full facts are aired in public.
It is the role of the coroner to examine the full circumstances and to decide what caused the collision.
Our article was written in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy when Mr Broomhead's heartbroken elderly mum and partner wanted to pay tribute to their loved one.
For balance we tried to contact Mr Hook's family by visiting his flat, but as he lived alone there was nobody to speak to and none of his relatives or friends have made contact with us.
We were told his parents lived away so as soon as his funeral director placed a death notice in our paper and we had a way of contacting them we did so and are waiting to see if they want to pay tribute to their son.
Kinds regards,
Claire Lewis

Some of that is fair enough, and the paper obviously needs to conform to the law. However, I'm pretty sure they could have, legally, mentioned eye witness reports.0 -

That's the stock reply that they've sent out to everyone who has complained.More problems but still living....0
