A mate of mine has been bugging me for a good while to become a roadie, after a good few years playing with MTB's I thought "why not"?

So I bought a frame a few weeks ago and have been slowly putting it together over the past few days.

What a first day to get out and do a bit, started with a fairly brisk 30 miler tout and return from Winchester heading east over the south downs, then after a half hour rest we span another 20 miles stopping at a pub with five miles to go.

I could wells be selling one of my MTB's !!!

Cheers,

Si :-)

Ps - I've set up my Speedplay Zero pedals with maximum float, feels a bit weird (like balancing on ice cubes) compared to my other bikes (which use CB Egg Beaters). Question is do I stick with it or maybe dial in less float, I'm worried about knee pain if I have too restricted movement in my knee joint which is why I have set it up this way.

Sounds like a nice first ride out, what frame have you built up?

I use Speedplays and they do feel very wierd at first. You'll soon get used to the floaty feeling and it will feel very natural, so stick with them in the current set up if you are concerned about your knees.

I went for an Enigma Echo frame, Campag SR group set, New Ultimate carbon seat post, alloy stem and carbon bar, Tune Kom Vor saddle and Mavic Ksyrium SR wheels.

Also got some Enve / Tune wheels on the way but taking much longer than hoped so got the Mavic's so I could get out there and still make the most of the end of the summer. Good to have a spare set of wheels too and don't much fancy riding carbon rims in the wet.

Pedals do feel a bit weird but I'll stick with it, I know it will allow free range of movement for my knees, just need to build some stabilising muscles that don't often come into play on my MTB.
