What locks/security measures failed you ?

I've posted this on the road bike stolen section aswell and hope thats ok.
I often read the sad tales of stolen bikes here and wonder what locks were used, and how were they used.
Did you have a 10mm square link boron hardened chain that was cut, or did you have a 6mm £3 cable lock from Wilko's ? Or nothing ? What padlock ?
What security measures are being breached by thieves on the streets and in back gardens these days ?
If you could include this info with your stolen bike details it may just encourage others here to take security more seriously and try harder to prevent furthur thefts.
Please tell others, WHAT DIDN'T WORK for you. There used to be an old saying of spend 10% of the bikes value on security. I think with druggies and the recession these days, that should be upped to 20%, yes seriously.
Would you spend £200 on quality locks and chains for your £1k bike ?
Yes, I think you should do, and still never leave it unattended for long periods.
It's war out there, Britain is broken, do not leave your bike unnattended, or if you have to, protect it as well as you can afford to.
