If you trade it in for a Mondeo you can get a bike in without having to remove wheels"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

We used to, it's a lot less than 49% now. Oops did I say we, I meant they.0 -
Just get the estate version...I can even get my kayak in the back of my 02 Focus Estate with the seats folded down! Bikes are no problem.Misguided Idealist0

This is the one reason why I regret not going for the A4 Avant rather than the saloon. I can get my Tricross in the back (with the seats down) but it's a bloody tight fit with the handlebars whatever way I try; and the front wheel HAS to come off... which means it must be deflated to get past the brake blocks.
All in all, a bit of a faff.Chunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

INterestingly, In the Merc ML. Getting a bike in is quite tricky, the boot is tall, but short. Also a bugger to get bikes on the roof with the height of it. I also had a nightmare finding a boot rack that fitted - I had to modify a rack to get it too fit.
So, for reference: Mercedes ML is not a cyclists car. I wish I had gone with the E-class estate, Ford S-Max or Mondeo Estate.0 -
I had a mondeo estate for a while, I think they call it an estate because the boot was the size of Blackbird LeysSaracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

You don't even need a Mondy estate for a bike - my MTB goes into my hatchback version easily with the back seats down. (S-Max is maybe overkill - simply cavernous but but great if you take the family cycling)"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

if we're playing who can get the most bike in their car then I'm claiming a win.

When I get round to replacing my ageing Ford Escort I'll either get a Focus or Mondeo & cycle carrying capacity is a major influence on which model I buy,so I'm interested in what you're all fitting in them. With the rear seats folded the Escort can just about take my 54cm Allez,or my short travel mountainbike. With the bikes wheels removed I can get a couple of mountainbikes in no problem,I think if anything the Mondeo's got even more room, not so sure about the Focus.0

I used to have a c-max and that was just a front wheel off job. I think the biggest problem with any Ford at the moment is the constant string of annoying electrical problems.
I chopped my ka and c-max for a nearly new Hyundai i30 which is fantastic. Haven't put my bike in it yet tho, I anticipate a wheels off approach will be necessary.Saracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

Take a look at the Focus Estate, I've got a 1.6 diesel, £90 odd a year tax and around 50mpg and loads of boot space especially after dropping the back seats.
If I was doing more mileage I'd look at a 1.8 or 2.0 diesel.
The Mondeo Estate is like the tardis!_________________________________________________

My Polo is a Tardis in disguise - If I fold the back seats down I can get a four man tent, bag of tent poles, 2 folding 20" bikes, 2 folding chairs, a folding table, a bag of kitchen utensils, a big suitcase of clothes (Mrs JW), a small bag of clothes (JW), a folding cupboard, a folded bike trailer, a cool box, 2 humans, 2 dogs and a small black hole..0
