I've 700x32 tyres on my 'sports' hybrid Saracen bike.

I was going to get full mudguards for it.

Does anyone know what size I should get and what the clearance should be?

i.e. is it 700x35mm or 700x38mm or 700x45mm?

thanks for any help.

What mudguards are you looking at? Generally the measurements for mudguards aren't how much clearance they give for the tyre, it's how wide they are.

I am interested in this as well - so for the SKS mudguards for example, on a 28c tyre, do I need 30, 32 or 35 mudguards?

And as the poster said - what side for 32c tyres?

I just got 50mm's, I generally run 35c's but thought of all the crap through winter and wider guards to catch it all.

Wiggle have them listed according to the size that they fit:

although it seems that 32mm falls between two sizes.

The narrow ones are a pretty tight fit on 28mm tyres, so I go for the next size up.
  • Get the biggest that will fit your frame.

This way you have a free choice of tyres during the changing weather and the extra width will catch more crap.

(I fitted the 40-somethings on my Tricross while running 28c tyres in the Spring / Summer / Autumn and 35 CXs in the Snow)

  • Little revival of this topic as it's sort of relevant to what I want to know.

I'm going to need some mudguards for the Karma. As this bike is not used properly offroad, I'd prefer some raceblade style ones rather than the standard crudcatcher things which are not as effective.

Problem is, the super-moto tyres are HUGE (around 2.4") and I'm not sure anyone actually makes the full-length guards big enough to fit.

    You'd be talking, what, about 100mm+ ?

the custom wooden ones spring to mind instantly purely because you choose the width however for a cheaper option however not full guards are the Cycra Guards the cover the length of my 29er and are wider than the traditional crudcatcher.
  • cheers but not quite what I'm looking for.

The back is not too bad with the traditional crud raceguard thingy on it. It's the front that's the real problem. The overspray kicked up off those tyres is truly awful.

No idea why, but it's so much worse than anything else I've ever ridden. Possibly down to having more surface area on the road or something :?

For some reason, the bender fender thing I use on the MTBs does not seem to help either.

I guess I could fit one of those SKS shockboard things, but goddamn they are ugly!

Don't much like the sound of wooden ones either (sorry).
  • No problem,

The only other suggestion well it would have to be a full guard is to possibly bodge an electra one as they do the beach bike theme?
  • stealthelite1986 - Absolute genius! Those look like just the ticket (apart from that awful hawaian theme). Will dig into that in a bit more detail.
    Many thanks!
