Hi I have a 2006 Stumpjumper Pro but it hasn't got the brain fitted and i would like to fit one the question is what one can I fit? looking at some newer stumpjumpers they seam to be mounted but 2 screws close to the bottom of the brain but mine looks like it needs to be mounted by one bugger screw so does anybody know the years the brain was fitted this way before they changed to the newer type?

Thanks

Those bugger screws are a bugger to find.

I have a 2007 frame which is, I think the same. I run a 200/57 Fox RP23 with Pro Pedal. Which IMO is better than the brain. Standard size is 197 x 45 There are plenty who run the 190x50 too. But with the 200/57 you can get within 2-3mm.

You can't retrofit one without new seatstays, as that's where the brain was mounted and non-brain models don't have the requisite holes. They also don't officially sell the shock aftermarket although you may manage to get one.

Disproportionate cost either way, look at a new bike if you really want a brain.
