I'm leaning towards the MTB. I should mention I have a Planet X Kaffenback frame + wheels which I am *gradually* going to build up, so that would end up being quite like the Uncle John I think?- Genesis Croix de Fer

if you've got a CX or at least winter/robust roadie frame, then a nice MTB for North Downs/Swinley seems the wise choice0
