Small chips on carbon stays

Hi all.

I suffered a rear wheel broken spoke on Tuesday which has left four chips (three are pin prick, one's slightly larger) in the laquer on the top of the non drive side chainstay on my Pinarello FP7. Simple question from this carbon frame novice - do I need to "treat" them (and if so how) or are they best just left alone?

Thanks in advance.
Take care,

Steve.

  • just clean the area and dab a bit of clear nail varnish on I reckon

Clear nail varnish was my thought too. Presumably there's nothing in that to damage the exposed carbon.

    Thanks.

  • Not 100% sure (not being a chemical or materials engineer) but had a large dollup of no.7 clear polish on the stays of my winter giant OCR1 for a couple of years and nothing untoward has happened. However, please don't shoot me if it melts your frame like the Nazis in raiders of the lost ark !
  • Clear nail varnish is what the LBS recommended to me after I chipped the lacquer on my downtube in a crash. Seems to have held up nicely for the last couple of months.
