Belt drive
Disc brakes
Guards
Fixed/Free
But for an eye watering £1300, could just get an 11sp Pompetamine surely?

Weren't decals similar to that the start of Speed King's "be warned" thread? Not even the main decals.
I blame Wiggle.0 -

"Perfect" and "fixed" now there's an oxymoron.

Fixed is a low maintenance compromise
Says the man who alternates between a Halfords bike, a clown bike and a Tandem
I've got a steel hub geared bike - same low maintenance as my Langster. Still commute fixed.0 -
Is it fixed? looks like a hub gear to me. Theres a cable going down the drive side chain stay.
Edit - Ahh it's a free&fix hub whatever that means, maybe you can press a button to freewheel if you're a wetter but run it fixed when your in town so you don't wear your brakes out? Sounds like a good idea if that's what it is, if it's not that I'm going to invent it.Saracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

Says the man who also has a Halfords bike in his signature link (and a hybrid FFS). Your steel one looks smart though.
Not that there is anything wrong with halfords bikes, but don't ride one and then slag them off.

The hub is a 1-speed affix fixed/freewheel hub, you change mode by rotating a big spinny disk on the cog size.
That thing that looks like a cable to the rear hub is a spoke aligned with a funny-looking rear dropout .
This is chain drive, NOT belt. I cant see any break in the rear triangle but according to BMC, there is one for fitting a belt.
How do you fit a luggage rack?
I'd have to agree, Fugly as Uck. Has someone faffed around with the aspect ratio of the image, shortening the length or was it born that way?0 -
I take that all back, it's cheap. You want expensive?
How does a penny change from £4500 for a flat barred fixed gear take you?

The copy is somewhat underwhelming for that price tag:
"The new BMC Masschallenge MC01 Team Spec 2012 Single Speed Bike is sporty, reliable and suitable for everyday use - the perfect tool for commuting, getting about the city or a leisure ride - attractive, fast, light and very convenient."
Does that mean BMC have a Leisure Team, primed for pootling? Perhaps Rapha should team up with Juicy Couture rather than Paul Smith and do a velour tracksuit to wear when riding this puppy.Location: ciderspace0 -
It's bizarre, I can't imagine they're seriously expecting to sell any0

At a push I can see about £800.
Maybe it was made for homogolation purposes?FCN 3: Raleigh Record Ace fixie-to be resurrected sometime in the future

And bought for homogostation purposes?
That's homo = man, not abbreviation for homosexual, before someone takes offense.Location: ciderspace0 -
In my mind at least SS bikes should be simple reasonbly cheap things, best part of 5 grands is a long way off.
That sort of money if I spent it on biking would most likely be on a holiday.0 -
I posed the Q on the Evans website & it got answered today- apparently much of the price tag is down to it being "a nice looking bike", since the only other reasoning is that it has a full carbon frame and 29" wheels. Maybe the "Vertu" label fell off?Location: ciderspace0

It's also the same frame as the £1000 UC01. So it's a £1000 bike with a pair of £2000 wheels stuck on? Yep, perfect for the commute...0
