Yes. Another season.I was only joking when I said
by rights you should be bludgeoned in your bed0 -
I say Cipollini gets caught...0
-
I don't think so he will get caught. Cav gets wins but he doesn't seem to ride many races for wins. Cept to go for conditioning. He Cav was French I'd say he would have been much much closer with so many smaller 1 day races which would be in your interest to win.
Bring a Brit (yes yes a Manx!) :P he doesnt get much chance to win many on home soil.0 -

Yes. Another season.
But can Cavendish win this, like this:
Or this:

Either way, it's an interesting stat.
Surprised Cav was not higher than Boonen, and surprised Zabel was tied with him.0 -
Well he's got the jersey............Trail fun - Transition Bandit
Road - Wilier Izoard Centaur/Cube Agree C62 Disc
Allround - Cotic Solaris0 -
Give it 2 or 3 seasons and Cav will be in second place.
He may never catch Cipo but he'll get close barring injury. If suffer we must, let's suffer on the heights. (Victor Hugo).0 -

There not really bunch sprints though, are they?
Seem to remember a while back there was a thought that Cavendish could win races like Flanders and Roubaix. Do people still think he can win Flanders with the new revised finish in Oudenaarde?0 -
I didn't know Boonen had won P-R 6 times..0

That's my point... :Pgreasedscotsman wrote:Seem to remember a while back there was a thought that Cavendish could win races like Flanders and Roubaix. Do people still think he can win Flanders with the new revised finish in Oudenaarde?
I don't think Cavendish can.
At best, I think he could become a Freire, and win from a smaller group he's found himself in, but that's at best.
I think Cavendish will be just a better Petacchi/Cippolini type.
Cippo won Ghent Wevelgem from a smaller group sprint anyway.
So yes, a Cippo type, not a cobbled rider.0 -

Nah - he's just indicating the number of years before he wins something again
<hides from Rick>
If you count the classics like you would world cup races, like Museeuw does in this picture...
...then Boonen had won 6.
2 Flanders, 3 Roubaix, 1 World Champs...
*ahem*0 -
Museeuw is just showing how many "wasps" it took to pull off that particular win.'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0

Ah a good question, and one I'm not sure I can fully answer.
#1, I'm obviously not as massive fan as I probably make out on here. It's more fun if you're a die-hard on here.
#2: I genuinely like rouleur style riders. Canc, Boonen, Hushovd (less so) etc. I like the way they race, I like the tactics they use. I like the fact they're the polar opposite of anything I can do on a bike. He's one of those.
Beyond that, I'm not sure. I like his interviews, I like the little insights he gives. He's not too corporate, like, say, Cavendish. You won't get OTT gushing about how 'amazing' everything is, or rants that he's boring and it's his job, nor will you get footballer cliche ridden interiews either. He's a little prickly with criticism in an interesting way. Even the cocaine was an interesting human interest angle for me.
Mainly though, I can't get enough of the way he rides classics.
Roubaix '10 is a classic case in point. He was the only guy after Canc attacked who had the balls to try and chase. So much so he got jumped on the line and ended up 5th.
You can say the same when O'Grady won in I think '07.
I used to like that he boss Flanders at will, and then still outsprint guys like McEwen by sheer bike-breaking power.
Probably helps he's good looking too.0 -
Anyway, Boonen aside, how many stages has Cavendish won that aren't bunch sprints?
He won a ToB prologue once didn't he?0 -

How many of those had Boonen won by 26 years old though ? I suspect Cav will be over a hundred by the time he hits 31.As for personality wise i always find Boonen a bit of a wooden top without anything real interesting to say, Cav on the other hand can be an opinionated bugger with a prickly personality which wins for me every timeGasping - but somehow still alive !0
