SHOGUN TRAILBREAKER 2 MTB

Hi all,

I’m looking to get out on an old mountain bike of mine. Its best part of 20 years old, but it seems to be ok, so want to give it a go off road before maybe considering buying something a bit newer.

Any how,

Its a Shogun Trail Breaker 2 with Suntour groupset.

Parts are:

Suntour md xc expert chainset (triple)

Suntour xc expert BRAKES (Cantilevers)
Suntour xc expert INDEX SHIFTERS triple/8 speed)

Suntour xc expert REAR MECH (8 speed)

I’m going to give it a service myself to get her up and running, but need to know a few things please

I’ve purchased some canti brake blocks and fitted, but all the cables are stretched/old/worm/rusted and need replacing.
With the groupset I’m running on it (suntour indexed shifting) would I need to get suntour specific cables or will general use cables (inners and outers) be ok?

Also with the bull horns, I’d like to replace with a standard flat bar, however this design looks quite old (quill?)

Does anyone know what diameter bar would fit this stem?

Cheers and thanks,

Dru
