I'd decided to record Eurosport HD to watch the World Championships later and skip the adverts.
This of course meant avoiding all news stories, being very careful what sites I visited (i.e. NONE) and who I spoke to until I got to sit down in the evening and indulge myself with a good bottle of red.
At the same time, I've sorted out the cleaning kit for a mate who's coming over to get his chain cleaning and prepped (as it's a mess) when I get an email from him saying that he's had to have his dog put down . Obviously he's really upset so he won't be coming over. I text him back basically saying "don't worry about it, just look after yourself. I'll see you on Monday"
Cue a few hours later, I've been cleaning the house, play Deus Ex (v v v good game) - you know: filling in the day with the usual stuff.... I check my phone and I've got a message from my mate - now with my phone, the message is shown on the screen as soon as you unlock it...
So there it is: right in my face: "Cav has done it mate. That's cheered me up a bit"
I mean, I really, really feel sorry for my mate. I really do. It's incredibly traumatic when you lose a pet, but I may have to kill him. I really may.

What d'ya mean 'may have to kill him'? You mean you haven't already? He'd be dog meat by now in my world.
Unlucky. Still at least you're spared the uber-understated commentary of Hugh Porter and Chris Boardman - I watched it on & off on the Red Button. Sometimes there's a need for a shouty fellow on the commentary team. And they even had time to go for dinner halfway through; for a good 20 minutes it was pictures only. Quite good actually.
Well done Cav.0 -
"May" have to kill him??
So, what method do you think you'll use. Obviously it will have to be something slow and painful.
PS it was fantastic to watch. After the build up of the previous lap, you just couldn't believe he could manage to pull it off with such chaos at the front. The best cycle sporting moment I've ever seen. Nothing will match it again; ever. Fabulous. Imagine how you love a normal Cav stage win and multiply it by 10. Or 20.Faster than a tent.......0 -
I think Cav is now honour-bound to dump the lovely Peta and have Bradley's babies for him. It's only fair.

If this were Facebook, I'd have to "Like" that. Wiggins' turn on the last lap was incredible, but hands up to Cav, he was so far from ideal he still had a lot to do at 500m. Overall though great team performance. The only disability in life is a poor attitude.0 -
What i want to know is where's our bank holiday for the win it was epic and i have a stonking hang over from it and being in work is hurting.
Given how nice it is the country should have got the day off to go out bike riding..Commuter: Forme Vision Red/Black FCN 4

I liked Cav's interview on Eurosport. He said "WE looked at this course three years ago. WE knew WE could win this" He also said " I can't believe WE won.0

Yeah, a great win. Having watched the U23 race where the French appeared from no-where to win, I was quietly confident that when Geraint slipped of the front to find Cav, we still had a chance. How he got through the gap and held on I don't know. It was a fantastic win and a massive team performance. Speaking of which we were top of the medal table with 2 golds, 2 silvers and 2 bronzes. Take that, Oz!
Now there's the small matter of a little road race near London next year...FCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -
Great team effort - Wiggins lead out was fantastic - can't belive he kept up that pace for so long - and Cav - lot of manovering and an uphill finish - brilliant.
Wish they didn't have Boarman commentating though - don't deny that he's brilliant on the bike but he comes over about as exciting as Nigel Mansel0
