Really big tyred mountain bike spotted???

Hi folks, I was riding at Glentress yesterday and saw a guy on a really big tyred mtb, no suspension. When I mean big tyred they were much much bigger both rims and tyres than a regular mtb.
I was wondering what the crack was with them, does anyone have one and what are they like?

His mate had a 29er Singular too, very nice

Think the bike in question is from Surly. They have rigid bikes with massive tyres, think 3.5-4 inches.

Fat Bikes. Used mainly for riding on Snow/Sand. STW seems ot have a few people who ride them.

We've been working on Pennel's Vennel lately and seen a fatbike cranking past most saturday mornings... Breaks up the monotony... "Orange Five... Zesty... 456... Meta... GIANT CLOWN BIKE!" Probably the same guy. He looks like he's having a great time...

I think the Bike Chain in Edinburgh is stocking Surly now if you want to check them out.

You don't like it? Apart from the river that runs down the middle bit I think it's a lovely wee bit of trail. There's always the racelink though if you don't.

I've seen three in the past two years, excluding the one a former work colleague of mine owns, so four.

Yes, rare, yes, expensive at £5 - £6K depending on the finished build, but very desirable for those hardcore all rigid riders.
