Do you swing both ways?

Is it wrong to swing both ways? I've just started road cycling 7 weeks ago and now I've bought a mountain bike as well! I've checked "the rules" and as long as I don't cross dress as well, it seems like I'm safe.

So do you swing both ways?

Yes, but only just going a bit roadie due to the amount of commuting I'm doing. However I am in violation of a number of rules, mainly 19, 32, 34 and 35. I am planing to start heading out for some more road rides for leisure as well and just commuting.
I love horses, best of all the animals. I love horses, they're my friends.

    Aye,

    In the rules I break
    1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 16, 17, 18, 19, 26, 29, 31, 33, 37, 45, 48, 50, 53, 58, 60, 61, 71, 74, 78.

Therefore I tend to ignore all of them.

    Commuter: FCN 9
    Cheapo Roadie: FCN 5
    Off Road: FCN 11

+1 when I don't get round to shaving for x days

It is ok - but you need to remember which side of the fence you are on before choosing your wheels. If not, major ridicule and embarrassment could follow.

    BEWARE.

If the weather's bad I go mountain biking instead of road. In the winter I just get some good lights and go out on the mtb at night.

I tried it once, it made my wrists ache and i got covered in crap so i've never been back, i couldn't wait to get home and have a showert.

Lost about £500 on the bike when i sold it on to a mate but i was just glad to get rid of the bike, i think people must be born that way because it felt like stepping off a race horse to ride a donkey, it just wasn't right for me.

I'm fed up with 'the rules'. If I want to conform to the self-righteous ramblings of a self-appointed expert I'd join a church.

    Amen to that.
  • ahem the rules are actually tongue in cheek...don't take them so seriously...i am a hairy legged spd using roadie, mtber and commuter...I couldn't give a rat's asrse which rules I break but I find the velominati hilarious... 20 years ago i used to be that anally retentive but who could be bothered now?

I enjoyed reading the rules and then breaking most of them.

Dont agree with balthazar as without the lighter side tribes there would be no rivalry, debate, pisstaking etc

Please note however that there are very little "rules" to MTB riding other than
1 if you don't fall off you're not trying hard enough
2 if you go too slow you'll have more accidents. :D
  • No, roadie only as there is no mud nor mountain near me. Miles and miles of poorly maintained tarmac though.
  • I thought only those who shave their legs swing both ways.

  • Having recently got into road riding after 20yrs of mtb'ing I have to say I couldn't be any happier. The road riding has done wonders for my fitness, managed to meet even more cyclists and generally have fun. I also makes me appreciate my MTV when I get back on it to race.

I say swinging both ways is great. After all, it's still cycling!
  • +1. MTBer for past 17 years and used road bike for fitness (big gains noted when back on MTB), but now find that 90% of my time is now spent on the roady. :0)
