Question is, do i need to buy anything else mainly do i need different batterys? as i have heard you need special care when charing them and also not letting them go dead.

would like advice on whether i need extras to make it viable light .

p.s if i pay via credit card /VISA do i get supercharged extra/VATed on top?

cheers

  • I got new chargers for my batteries from torchythetorchman on ebay, my chargers either failed or started to make odd noises, I had no faith in them at all.

The light comes with everything you need except a british socket converter.

They do a 900 lumen with waterproof battery and UK plug for around £48

You might as well spend $2 on a convertor and get the newer, better, cheaper XML-T6 in the OP though.

If buying from DX, pay with Paypal, and no, you pay the price you see.

I just bought one of those lights... It's well put together etc, no complaints there.

The beam pattern's a bit off... It's got a very bright spot, and a fairly bright flood/halo with a really abrupt step down in power. But as the centre spot's so bright, the flood seems duller than it is, beause of the contrast. Comparing at a standstill, the wide beam is actually brighter than my old P7 lights, but while riding the wide beam doesn't feel as useful.

OTOH the spotlight is fantastic, it has a huge throw so for helmet use it's very good. But it's not that good on the bars. Maybe a diffusor or different reflector would help.

  • so from what you saying this isnt a good light for using on the bars?

ie it wouldnt be wide enough to use to help me when i ride along the river/when i ride along road? :?

ok so it better to pay via paypay than visa so cheers for heads up

It'll do the job but there's better options. It's not that it's not bright enough, just that the high contrast between the centre and sides makes it a bit less useful. I'm going to have a play with mine and see if I can improve it but for bar use I'm probably going to stick with my old P7, even though it makes less light.

  • ok so what other lights then should i use that would surfice for going along the river paths and along the roads then, here some that i been looking into

    and also

atm going towards the MJ 808 as it looks a lot wider and seems from the sounds easyer to charge given it has a indicator with the battery level on it ect.

    views welcome.

For stuff like that, stick a candle on your helmet  My commuter has one of those old £7 tesco torches attached and it's spot on for that sort of use, bugger all use for technical offroad though.

For road use I'm dead nervous of my offroad lights because they've got the ability to seriously glare people, which isn't helpful. Also they've got crap side visibility- my little £10 Cateye flasher is more visible from off to the side than my super-atomic-offroad-lights (though the big pool of light is pretty visible)

  • i never use those cheap lights for road use as they are so useless light wise i may as well wear black.

question is out of those lights i have posted which one has the best all round performance given you said the t6 was too narrow.

I know its all very personal, but I find no problems using the xml t6 on paths, very rough off road, anything really. I was sceptical at first, because of the spot, but in practise I have found it to be great. Although the flood is nowhere near as bright as the centre spot, it is still plenty bright enough to see a huge area. And my preferred place for it is on the bars.
Sometimes, your better off trying it for yourself so you can make your own mind up, have you got any friends with similar lights you could have a go with?
