I find some of my jerseys still smell after being washed. Are there any particular detergents or treatments that's effective for getting rid of smells from synthetic clothing?

This your jersey's way of saying you need to buy another.

Hanging mine out to dry outside on the line (as opposed to a clothes horse next to a radiator) seems to help - UV killing off bacteria that detergent leaves behind, presumably.

Gonna be real expensive then! Worst ones are my Castelli Prologo jerseys which are pretty much brand new. Think it's a combination of the material structure designed for wicking (and harbouring bacteria) and not being able to stick them through a hot wash.

Vanish Extra Hygiene. I use it on my (ancient) commuting gear. Not bad results

    One word answer.......

    Sportswool.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

Like above, look at changing the base layer to natural fibres. I've got a few bamboo base layers and they are OK - get a bit damp from sweat.

try not loading up your washing machine so much, fill it only 4/5 of the way.
  • Soap.... try using soap. (For anyone from Fife, this substance is probably unknown to you!)

    Just try a different detergent
  • Soak em in bicarb of soda overnight - extra rubbing of bicarb on smelly bits.

And then wash at a higher temp than you think you should... 60C instead of 40C

Merino base + sports wool. Foolproof.
