...... And not very well!

Much as I enjoy cycling and scalextric, this is not a match made in heaven. BOA and BC should be ashamed

    Have you seen the review?

I purchased a Team GB Scalextric Velodrome set in late 2011. Due to the intense Olympic build-up and the pressure put on the plastic riders by the British media, by the time the games started the performance of the riders differed considerably from the pre-purchase hype.

Most of the events were won by the German team resulting in the British Performance Director (plastic doll, bought as an extra) being ceremonially sacked by BC (large gold-plated bucket of self-righteous dung, bought as an extra). The set's only entertaining feature was the Boris Johnson Mayor figure (plastic doll, turned up as an uninvited extra) streaking during the opening ceremony.

With hindsight I should have bought the Evel Knieval BMX track, where the Shaznay Reade figure falls off in the final. At least I'd know what I was getting.
  • Good luck to them, if they can get a few extra quid, and it's invested in the sport them why not!
  • Wouldn't buy it but if it gets more cycling into the mainstream, then good for them

Winter - old faithful Ribble winter bike

Well, she never was much of a dancer really, to tell the truth. Or a singer.
  • I can be an old fuddy duddy at times Wakou but this is still dreadful! Cars yes but not bikes. I hope it does bring in funds for whoever but surely it could've been done better.

Gets no better when you see this

Seen this advertised on the kids channel my boys watch

Problem is though do they drive the same as the slot cars, fast straight off the throttle on the bends?

Or with it being banked hammer down?

Imagine the scale speed of these bad boys if they were modified!

They should have gone the whole way and made it digital with lane changing sections, plus the addition of a slight power surge when one rider came off another's wheel. And the track is not a proper oval either.

Yeah I know, but if you're going to do something do it properly or don't bother.

I've just contacted a builder to come and extend the kitchen in anticipation of the Tour de France version.......

Yeah, a real missed opportunity. This was doing the rounds in a few mags back in March, and I assumed it was actually an April Fool's joke. But I'm still getting one for Christmas! My velodrome set will even have a trackside crowd as I'm planning to use my old Subbuteo grandstands. It's gonna be the best Christmas Day I've had for 25 years :D

I'm a real sucker for all this Olympic-branded tat. Anyone else shelled out for the Hornby train set? I'm getting my back garden re-done in the spring and I'm wondering if I can re-create a mini Olympic park in the corner, maybe using the Airfix Olympic stadium

When I was a lad we had a similar toy. It was a little velodrome with cyclist models which had a magnet under the front wheel. Under the track magnets moved around and pulled the cyclists with them. It was one of the best toys I ever had.....I guess this is the updated version, with an updated price.

Uneccessary surely. Velodrome indoors, TDF outdoors.

Open the door and run the track round the garden.

Spend the money you've saved on a new bike or two.

Now there's an idea, I wonder if the track will go round a Subbuteo pitch? That would give it a real continental flavour, especially if you added the stands and floodlights.
