BB spacers

hi
I have just replaced my 3x9 set-up on my 2011 kona caldera with a 1x9 conversion. i have followed the instructions from the workshop section. i have used a superstar plasma chain guide which works fine. Now if i remove the spacer on the drive side and replace it with the bb adapter for the chain guide the chain ring does not line up with the centre of my 9 speed mesh or the chain guide. but if i leave the spacer there and add the bb adapter from the chain guide it lines up perfectly. is it ok to add extra spacers to the bb or will it damage the bb?
sorry if it was a long winded question just thought i would explain what ive done.
thank you
Ben

hi there.
the bb size is 73mm and came as new with just one spacer on drive side.
fsa megaexo bb.
fsa comet triple crank set.
superstar components plasma chain device.
brand x chain ring bolts(short)
and for now i am using the 32t middle ring on the centre mountings on my crank.
will this cause any damage in any way having affectively 2 spacers on the drive side? are the spacers for alignment only or do they serve another purpose ?
thank you for the reply

You don't need any spacers with 73mm shell and a BB mount chain guide.0
-
This is what i originally thought. So i am assuming that the the problem is the chain guide? Because when fitted with no spacer the chain guide still needs to come closer to the frame. At the moment the spacer is inbertween the guide and crank. :? :? :?0

The spacer or guide should be between the BB shell and BB cup, not outside of the cup, which is what it sounds like you've done?I don't do smileys.

Sorry that came out wrong. They are between the BB shell and BB cup. I used the spacer to put distance between the chain guide (which is as close to the frame as possible) and the crank. Just cant make it work with just the chain guide spacer/mount. :?0

Is it causing any rub?0
-
Yes there is lots of rubbing. Its alot tighter than it looks!0

Can you mount the chainring on the outside of the spider?0
-
I did try that but it pushes the ring out to far the other way. I would need loads of washers to space the guides out. but this might be the only way! I take it that running the spacer and the guide would damage something in the long run?0
-
It is not recommended. The crank is designed to fit on the BB axle a prescribed distance.0
-
Ok that idea is out the window0

Do you think i might have more luck with this product? More adjustment maybe?

Impossible to say.0

Have you got a spacer on the non-drive side? Looks like you do in one of those pictures. Shouldn't be any on the nds for a 73mm shell.0

Looks like there is.I don't do smileys.

No there is not a spacer on the non drive side, although it does look like there is. It might be some grease pushing out from when i fitted it. I fitted the E thirteen free chuker and its the same. Too close to the ring! I give up now!
Thanks to everyone for the replys0 -
it looks like it is rotated too far forward."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
