single ring conversion - front chainring bolts

Hi,

I'm building a hack bike just now and have gone singlespeed.

My problem lies with the front sprocket - it's a 2011 Deore pair of cranks with a stock Deore 32t ring.

I'm using the same bolts that were on it when it arrived as a 3x9 setup.. but without the extra thickness of the outer ring, the bolts screw too far into the threaded cup things, so when they need the final twist to lock them (which obviously requires some resistance), i can't fit a flathead into the given grooves because the bolt is too far through, and is sitting flush with the end as opposed to below it.

Guessing i either need a spacer or a shorter bolt, but not sure, so just checking with those who know.

That'd be you.

Cheers :)
