Any owners of the Thule X-Press bike rack?

Right, I've just bought a Thule X-Press 970 bike rack. This is the one which clamps straight onto the towbar.
In terms of attaching the bike, there are two rubberized fastenings to secure the top tube at either end and a strap that goes around the seat tube/down tube and fastens together.
As I won't get to test it in anger before travelling on Saturday with a bike attached, some of the journey on motorway, I wondered whether any owners had any particular experience of whether it's secure enough as is, anything additional you have used to secure your beloved bikes, or any other measures - I was thinking of removing the wheels just to reduce the weight on the rack/drag factor.
Many thanks.
