Now we all eat them, some more than others and like me, some eat them every day!

Now i get a bit bored of all the same old fillings - ham, cheese with various sundries - salad, coleslaw various sauces but i find they get a bit samey after a while so i am after some suggestions as to different fillings

what are your guys suggestions to literally spice up my lunch time eating.

all suggestions considered.

    Try changing the bread.

I'm quite in to pita bread at the moment.

You have to grill it very slightly so they open properly. They also have the advantage of being lower in fat and salt than 'normal bread'.

None of these are particularly healthy but:-

Stilton (The king of cheese) and Walnut.
Peanut butter (crunchy only!) and bramble jelly
Savaloy and brown sauce (the wife threatens to leave me every time I make one but I can't resist - I make this loads but she's still here),

Brie and bacon. works best in a baguette.

Peanut butter and jam. works best on white and is pretty good on a crust.

    Ham (or beef) and mustard.

Spinach, tomato and grated mozzarella, perhaps on a sun-dried tomato ciabatta roll.

I also like them rolls you can buy with cheese melted on the top. cut'em in half and then marge in the middle.

Going for a ride later? I reckon an energy gel might spread pretty well.........

  • Cheese and jam. Normal cheddar type cheese, best type of jam is plum/blackcurrant. Something sharper than strawberry at any rate. mmm...

and not forgetting peanut butter and banana.

I collected a load of hazlenuts at the weekend, and with the parsely we have growing in our garden, made a pesto (hazlenuts, olive oil, garlice and parsley). It was awesome with some freshly sliced chicken breast in a sandwich.

Turkey, american mustard and black peppers

Weekends ( if i have had a drink and i am peckish! )

Turkey or chicken again with Nando's extra hot sauce, soon sorts me out!

    Lemon Curd.
  • +1 to changing your bread, can be as much as a variety as the filling.

Bacon, brie and tomato or a even a BLT is one of my faves. Ham, mayo, cheese and pickle with the fillings laid down in that order. Pork and stuffing. Hmmn all my fillings seem to include meat of some sort...

    granary with - avocado,cheddar,tomato,lettuce,english mustard,black pepper

Amazing what some seasoning can do for sandwich
  • Chicken salad with chili-oil fried tomatoes and pesto between some lightly fried slices.

Top tip if you're using baps - you can cram in more filling if you make two cuts in the bap. I think of it as two sandwiches with only three-quarters the bread. I'm sure it can be faulted but not by me...

Tuna and habanero chilies is always a favourite but......
Quality ham off the bone, Montomery chedder, German peppered salami and garlic sausage on white farmhouse bread is the sandwich of the gods.

I'm more of a savory guy too, but Honey, Banana and Raisin is rocket fuel pre ride !!!
It would be fantastic as mid ride fuel, if it wasn't so f*ckin messy :D

    Strong, mature cheddar.
    Mayo,
Maggi chilli sauce (others work, but this is the best I've found)
mix a god dollop of mayo with a good dollop of the chilli (don't over do it, it stains the carpet when it squeezes out the sides !)
    on toasted Sainsburys multiseeded bread.

in fact........... I'm going to go and make one now :D

Edit: Goddamn it !!! I'm out of cheese ! School boy error !!!

If the sandwich has cheese then it has to have a dash of Worcester sauce, additional to all other fillings.

    Not for the feint hearted:

Grated cheese. Mayo. Branston pickle. Pepper - on a bed of rocket.

Nails you to your seat, but excellent.

Goes well with a pork pie and some cranberry juice.

Plain wrong, cheese is the food of the gods.

If you want to augment your cheese sandwich with something, I can recommend Walkers Salt and Vinegar.
  • Rocket is under-used in sandwiches, great for adding something extra to chicken and mayo.
