Hey peeps,

After numerous hours of going back and forth from Ribble to Planet X to Boardman to Cube etc I settled on Focus Cayo 105 ltd 2011 as my new purchase ONLY to be told that they dont and will not be getting in the XXL size which they recommend I have.

I am 6'3 inside leg 33.

My question is do you think I might be able to sneak onto the XL or is it not worth the risk?

Any recommendations for equivilant? The new Cube Attempt (Pelaton Race) has good kit but what an awful colour scheme! Budget in £1100 max.

Cheers

  • Depends on the geometry... if it's sloping you will probably be OK

What do you make of that ugo?
  • So a 2cm shorter top-tube and 1.2cm lower head-tube. Not major really and can be corrected by the right stem.

I'm just under 5'11 and ride a 56. You may want to hear from other taller guy to see what they use.

6ft 2 and always happy on a 58cm frame - would not want bigger than XL myself.

    Thanks guys..

Whats the worst that can happen if it is too small?

A bike slightly too small is better than one slightly too big on the basis of control no?

Not got it yet, just getting excited!

If I use the 20% discount I cannot use the 30 day trial. So cheaper bike or correct fit?

I can use the discount and then just sit on the bike but NOT take it for a spin and return if wrong size, but I think I need to clock up some milage before I know right?

@Solboy I was thinking of getting Focus Cayo 105 ltd on the basis of so many happy owners in review section of wiggle. However I thought the Bike Radar review was good, but not as dazzling as the Boardman Team Carbon or Cube Attempt.

Tried to get my hands on Cube but now difficult to come by. Do you think its worth hunting further for one? Was rated No.1 by BR in bike under £1000?

Read summats about Wiggle letting you pay full price so you can return, but if you decide to keep they will refund you the difference. Anyone confirm this?
The only disability in life is a poor attitude.
  • I hear Wiggle no longer have exclusive access to Focus bikes and my local specialized store already have some Focus bikes available to try- presumably 2012 models. Don't know prices yet but gives you another option. A bike slightly small is better imho than one too large.

I returned a bike to Wiggle that i had tested round the block and they didnt query it even though it was not part of the 30 day test ride. Baby wipes are great for cleaning tyres

There are many threads on here questioning some of the BR reviews. For me i think you need to make your own mind up but where else can you get a 105 full carbon, highly resepcted bike for £880 delivered?

I was actually questioning the BR review in a good way as its a very well respected mag and of course I need to make up my own mind, but it makes the buying process easier to get other peoples opinions before you drop large sums of cash.
    Strength in numbers and experience.

Thanks all for advice..105 it is.

You still get 7 days (distance selling regulations), they can't stop that

Don't believe everything you read. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder - same with reviews!

    I'm 6ft 4 / 5in - 33in leg. The XL has a rather short 570mm top tube length. I generally run a 590mm top tube with a 130mm stem.
